Two Tier Medical Care?

According to the NYTimes on Sunday, critics of “concierge medicine” contend that the rise of “membership” doctor’s offices will create a two tier medical system, with those that join getting better access to better care. We disagree: the rise of concierge medical practices will create three tiers—we already have two. First tier is those that dont have care, then those that have insurance/hmo based care, and now we have a tiny population of consumers getting access to concierge care.

What concierge medicine is: better access to better care. Overworked doctors are dropping their two to three thousand patient loads, and instead caring for 300-500 patients—but charging them $1750+ on an annual basis, as a “membership fee.”

Based on our small sampling, consumers of these concierge services are VERY satisfied and we think the business will continue to grow—assuming legislators do not get in the way.
