According to Scott McCartney who writes The Middle Seat column for the WSJ, there will be another 300,000 flyers qualifying for elite status on the major airlines this year (8% increase) – and many of them not becuase they fly, but because they spend using credit card company partner cards. The point: less real benefit for the true elite business traveller who relies on upgrades, priority boarding and other perks to make business travel barely tolerable.
