Destination Clubs Kick Off 2008 with Member Incentives

Lusso Collection Kiawah Island For destination clubs, a new year often means a new push to attract club members. Several clubs are offering incentives to new and current members, while others, facing big changes like mergers and price increases in coming months, are encouraging prospective members to get in while the getting’s good.

Distinctive Holiday Homes aims to lure new members with a two-year, pre-payed lease on a new BMW. The value of the car can equal up to the price of the member’s annual dues, which vary by plan. Premium, Deluxe and Platinum memberships are all eligible for the incentive, which echos another beamer-related publicity-grabber going on in Dubai.

Destination club behemoth Exclusive Resorts is currently offering what they are touting as their most aggressive pricing incentives ever to American Express cardholders and members of Marquis Jet. Long time partners of the two companies, Exclusive Resorts is offering the incentive as a nod to the significant number of members who have joined through these channels over the years.

Another AmEx incentive comes from Ultimate Resort, who is offering double rewards points for every dollar members spend on either membership fees or annual dues. This incentive was started in the summer of 2007, but is extending into 2008, when Ultimate Resort and Private Escapes will merge to become the largest presence in the destination club industry. The incentive, no doubt gives potential members of that club a reason to get off the fence, since when the club merger is complete (likely at some point in March) membership deposit prices will likely go up.

Lusso Collection will also be undergoing a price increase, and terminating their “membership reward” program, March 1. Members joining before this date, however, will still be enrolled in the program, which gives resigning members a full refund on their deposit and a 50 percent share of any increase in club membership costs, and avoid the $30,000 and $37,000 price hikes on individual and group memberships respectively.
