The Yellowstone Club, a private club near Big Sky, Mont. complete with a ski mountain, Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course, Secret Service-level security and billionaire members like Bill Gates, has been taken off the sales block after a planned $450 million sale to a private equity firm collapsed, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Reporter Robert Frank said in today’s Journal that the club’s sale to CrossHarbor Capital Partners fell through after the private equity firm “failed to meet the Blixeth’s demand to provide that the firm had adequate financing for the deal.” CrossHarbor for its part, said Frank was unable to “get adequate due diligence information.” The lead negotiator and co-founder of CrossHarbor was unable to be reached for further comment.

Yellowstone Club’s owners, billionaires Tim and Edra Blixeth put the private club on the market earlier this year in the midst of their divorce proceedings, a sign that the previously friendly split was turning ugly. Tim Blixeth sent out a letter to club members last week noting that the club was seeking partners for real estate expansion. Both Blixeths plan to resume active involvement in managing and growing the club, where a one-acre home site sells for a cool $1 million. No word yet if Yellowstone Club World, the millionaire-friendly destination club counterpart to the tony Montana club, will once again start seeking new members.
