Last year around this time, Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers was struggling to convince his team’s owners to let him hold onto his job, after his hapless squad stumbled through the season with a losing record. Now with his team just a victory away from winning the NBA Championship, Doc Rivers is in a position to repay the trust that kept him in his coaching gig.
We’re not just talking about securing some new hardware for the Celtic’s already well stocked trophy case. You see, Rivers is an early member of destination club Ultimate Escapes, which gives him access to luxurious vacation homes all around the world. If he really wants to do his bosses a favor, he’ll tell the partners of the Celtics’ ownership syndicate, that they ought to consider a membership.
After all, these guys fit directly into Ultimate Escapes target demographic.
As the San Jose Mercury News reports, the Celtics’ owners, who took over the franchise in 2002, include a fair number of San Francisco Bay Area based venture capitalists and tech executives- exactly the kind of affluent and free thinking type of individuals likely to find value in a destination club.
There’s Jim Breyer, managing director of Accel Partners; Joseph Lacob, partner with Lkeiner Perkins Caufield & Byers; Stephen Luczo, CEO of Seagate; and Michael Marks of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts to name a few. Not exactly lightweights, we’re talking about here.
So Doc, bring these guys home a trophy. But while you’re at it why not slip in a few Ultimate Escapes brochures. Hey, we’re sure Ultimate Escapes will give you some love for the referral.Celtics’ Silicon Valley Owners- And future Ultimate Escapes Members?
