Four Seasons Bora Bora Sells $18 million Huts

While the U.S. real estate market continues to tighten (news of a possible government takeover of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have only darkened the economic skies), the ultra-high end of the global real estate market seems to live in a rarified bubble. Vanity Fair magazine recently ran a sexy photo spread of $40 million estates in the Hamptons, but the East End of Long Island is just one corner of the world where, apparently, money is no object.
The Four Seasons Bora Bora is selling 15 homesites ranging in price from about $6 million to nearly $18 million, which may be seen as a virtual bargain compared to a slice of sand in New York, not counting the price of a private jet flight to the South Pacific, of course. The homesites, which provide either lagoon or Pacific Ocean frontage, range from half an acre to one and a quarter acres. The development snagged George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, an interior design team best noted for their work on restaurants and hotels like the St Regis in San Francisco and the Sofitel in Los Angeles. The Bora Bora project is the first major residential project for the duo.
Reached via an eight and a half hour flight from Los Angeles and 45-minute minute connecting flight from Tahiti, Bora Bora isn’t exactly an easy weekend getaway. But in exchange for serious jet lag you’ll get a home that literally oozes island living. Each residence is actually a mini-compound of luxury “huts” with thatched roofs, according to the design team. The living areas, kitchen and bedrooms of each home are located in separate buildings.
Calling these homes “huts” is a slight misnomer. After all, when was the last time you saw a hut with sandblasted limestone walls, oak wood floors, and an infinity-edge pool? These homes, or huts if you prefer, are offered in three- and four-bedroom layouts and the largest are spread out over 11,500 square feet. Interiors will include coral chandeliers, a library, and open-air bathrooms. Residences will have private decks with outdoor daybeds and there is the option to add on a separate spa area with a gym, yoga studio, and massage room.
Potential buyers can check out the lay of the land this summer, when the adjacent Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora opens its doors. To complete the offering, a golf course is in the works too.
