Top 10 DC locationsWhen we first compiled our ranking of the most popular destination club home locations, we looked at U.S.-based clubs. In our mid-year update, in addition to reflecting clubs’ property growth and industry mergers, we’ve added destination clubs located overseas.

There are now more than 750 destination club homes worldwide, with 60 percent of residences located in the U.S. and 11 percent in Europe. Four international locales now rank among the top ten, with Los Cabos remaining the most popular club destination. New York is the second most popular location for destination clubs.

Not surprisingly, Exclusive Resorts, the largest destination club with more than 3,000 members and 350 properties, also leads the development charge. The club is building 40 homes in Maui and 24 in Sea Island, Ga. Expect Las Vegas to soon climb the ranks; Exclusive Resorts and M Private Residences are developing a total of 31 homes in Sin City. Also on tap for Exclusive Resorts are 11 homes in Vail, Colo. and ten homes in Anguilla.

Smaller clubs, however, are serving to diversify the mix of locations even more. Everlands has a property in Alaska, while Distinctive Holiday Homes has a house in Fiji and is planning on opening a home in Morocco in mid-2009. Europe-based clubs also a bring new locations like Andalucia and Cannes into the mix, as well as more far flung locations in Africa.

Readers, weigh in. Is there a location that is underserved by the destination club industry? What markets would you like to see clubs enter?

With the exception of the new ER inventory the clubs have done a poor job in Vegas. This location can rival NYC for a quick 2 - 3 day get away. With prices on the strip decreasing faster than gamblers stack of chips there is some opportunity hear. Call the Donald I hear his place is having challenges - they just let 20% of the staff, closings have been evaporated. This may be a good market for a DC to lease in. Thgoughts???

PanamaPanama: Second home buyers and investors might be eyeing Panama, but for the most part, destination clubs are not. In fact, the Lusso Collection is one of the few clubs developing property there now.
