Brazilian jet manufacturer Embraer is reporting a second quarter net income of $134.4 million. That is nearly double the $67.3 million the firm earned in that period a year ago. Revenue was up 47.3 percent in the quarter, rising to $1.63 billion. Embraer racked up nearly $20.7 billion in orders. While the majority of this was made by the company’s regional jet liners, business jets accounted for over $6 billion.
While Embraer’s sales were impressive, the production side was equally prolific. Fifty-two jets rolled off the line during the quarter, up 44.4 percent from last year. The production bump is said to be the result of a company-wide streamlining, as well as the opening of new manufacturing facilities.
Those facilities are preparing to churn out the new Phenom 100 very light jet (VLJ.) The Phenom 100, which recently passed 1,000 hours of flight testing, is expected to secure FAA approval this fall. Embraer hopes to deliver 10 to 15 of those planes by the end of the year. The Phenom 100 gives Embraer a competitive plane in virtually every segment of the business jet market, from VLJs all the way up to the “ultra-large” Lineage 1000.
