Far-Flung Resorts: Four Seasons Opens on Mauritius

Globetrotters seeking bragging rights for the longest flight to a vacation destination can add the Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita to the list. The resort, which opened this month, sits some 1,250 miles off the eastern coast of Africa in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Getting there requires a 22-hour flight from New York (the least-expensive flight approached $1,700), stopping in Paris, London or Dubai. The trek from Los Angeles adds at least another four hours to the trip.

Once on the island, visitors to the Four Seasons will find a mangrove-lined resort complete with an 18-hole golf course, a spa with treatment rooms that sit on stilts over the water and a collection of villas, each with a private plunge pool. Rates at the 123-room resort start at $946 a night for a one-room pool villa and $2,700 for a two- or three-bedroom residence with a kitchen, dining area and multiple bathrooms. Until December 21, the resort is offering the fifth, sixth and seventh nights free. Beginning March 1, the sixth and seventh nights are complimentary.
