Private Aviation Advantage #11 - Bringing Stuff On Board

NoGel.jpgToday the latest threat to commercial aviation surfaced in London, creating a new bucket of forbidden unchecked goods: toothpaste, gel, baby bottles, shampoo, sunscreen, bottled water or any carry-on liquids at all: wine, spirits, soft drinks, etc.

Also blacklisted were key fobs, which apparently bad guys may use to detonate an explosive. In the specific incident, cellphones and iPods were suspected as detonation devices, but imagine an underpaid security guard trying to get you to dump those in the trashcan at the airport.

Of couse, we can all learn to not bring this stuff in our carry-ons. All of us except the three guys in front of you at the security checkpoint, trying to save their half bottle of Pepsi while the guard rifles through their carry-on for Coppertone, Colgate and the spare six-pack of Zima. By the time you’re through – shoes off, beltless pants falling down, laptop stolen – you feel like you’ve done a weekend stint in a medium-security Turkish prison. Only without the hash experience.

Everytime some idiot screws with commercial aviation, the passenger experience degrades into yet another circle of hell. So to our already considerable list of Top Ten Benefits, we’ll add:

11: Bringing your stuff into the cabin.
