Private Jet Special: The Mile High Club

jetinterior.jpgAs our Decision Guide to Private Jet Travel indicates, there are numerous variations to private aviations. Despite our high expectations for business creativity, we never anticipated the Mile High business.

Created in 1916 by Lawrence Sperry (not coincidentally, inventor of the autopilot and pilot trainer to many married women), the club offers membership to…ah…better get someone else to explain it to you.

Anyhoo, numerous entrepreneurs have sprung up to accommodate those wishing entry into the club. At La Guardia, New York Aviation offers three packages: the Quickie, the Young Lovers, and the Romeo & Juliet for $600 to $1,000. Each includes one hour aloft, with the lux package including a stretch limo ride to the airport, four-course meal at the airport restaurant, champagne, a rose and an assortment of mementos. You may, of course, end up with a souvenir of your own.

In Cincinnati, there’s Flamingo Air’s “Flight of Fancy” package, which includes one hour of flight time in a curtained aircraft with champagne, chocolates, and – according to their website – one “very discreet” pilot. All for 300 bucks.

There’s a full directory of these specialty providers here. If you’ve tried one of these flights, we’d love to hear your reviews. Send your thoughts (but no photos) to jets@heliumreport.com.
