You are viewing an article from the Robb Report category.
We stole this idea from 2 of our favorite blogs: Seeking Alpha does an online summary every day of the Wall Street Journal, and Dealbreaker does a nifty summary of the NY Times Deal column. So we read the Robb Report September issue, so you don’t have to – here’s our summary:
- Quick rundown on The Shave of Beverly Hills – haircuts start at $65, $4K for annual memberships all inclusive.
- Some articles on cool expensive chairs, urns and stuff to put in your living room.
- Spotlight on innovative start-up Container Yachts, that for 200 grand will sell you a 39 foot yacht that can fit into a standard 40 foot shipping container – so you can reposition your yacht to almost any destination in the world via ship or rail. More at www.containeryachts.com.
- Review of some new golf course in Newfoundland..are you kidding??
- Update on Dr. Anrew Weil’s gig at the Miraval Resort in Arizona. Worth a closer look.
- Fashion spread. Waste of 12 pages.
- Rather long story on why Leonardo Ferragamo bought Finnish sailboat builder, Nautor’s Swan. Skip it unless you are a fanatic about Finnish sailboat builders.
- Evocative story of driving vintage BMW’s on the shore of Lake Como. Good car pictures.
- Review of the 2007 BMW Z4 M coupe – not available to read online at www.robbreport.com, so check out this review instead.
- Feature story on ultra luxury hotels around the world – Claridge’s in London, Four Seasons Austin etc.
- Good review of the current state of the fractional and charter jet industry by Stephen E. Maloney, who obviously knows his stuff. He sheds light on some important issues, such as the fact that fractional operators are buying back fractions from owners on average at 70 cents on the dollar, with a high of 80 and a low of 40. For more in-depth research if you are in the market for private aviation, get our Decision Guide.
- Puff pieces on the La Posta Vecchia hotel, near Rome, once home to J. Paul Getty (you can probably stay in his bedroom), a cigar maker in the Dominican and bespoke shirts.
That’s it for this month. We just saved you $8.99, unless of course you read the Robb Report while waiting for your dentist. Subscriptions available here.
