magellan residentail cruise ship celebrity eventWhat do Magellan’s Residential Cruise Line and the landlocked Phoenician Resort have in common? Besides being two luxurious places to beat the winter-time blues, they’re joining forces to bring you a Celebrity Event – a celebrity golf tournament, a gala evening event, and a celebrity poker tournament.

Taking place at the Phoenician in Scottsdale, Arizona on Saturday, February 17, the Celebrity Event features an exciting, fun-filled weekend:
  • Shot gun start golf tournament, including a putting contest, breakfast, lunch, prizes and awards
  • Cocktail reception and dinner at Mastro’s Ocean Club Fish House followed by an appearance from funny man Martin Short
  • A celebrity poker tournament hosted by Phil Gordon of the World Poker Tour

The celebrity golf tournament is $2,500 per person. It’s $2,000 for the gala evening event, and you must ante up $3,500 for entry into the poker tournament.

the phoenician resort scottsdaleAre the event fees worth it? First, you’ll be staying a night or two at the Phoenician Resort where golf and a room usually go for $765 per person per night this time of year. Then you’ll be palling around with celebrities like astronaut Buzz Aldrin, players from the World Poker Tournament, and sports legends like Emmitt Smith, Johnny Bench, and Evander Holyfield.

For an exciting, jammed packed weekend complete with bragging rights – the fees may just be worth it.

The developers of the Magellan have stepped up their marketing efforts over the past few months (based on how much direct mail we’re getting), as they work to get their charter owners in place. There’s probably a minimum number of owners they need to have put down deposits, before the construction on the ship starts. As the developers behind another ship, the Four Seasons, have found out, without enough owners construction needs to wait. That boat was scheduled to launch in late 2007, but we’ve learned that construction hasn’t started, so it’s still at least two years off, probably more.

Hopefully the marketing push for the Magellan will get them across the starting line, and construction will begin later this year.
