$475 million Jet Walkthroughs: Boeing Business Jet & Airbus A380

Airbus Corporate JetFor all twelve customers out there, we’ve got a few updates on the largest of the private jets: the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) and the Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ). Currently only the Boeing Business Jet is on the menu for fractional owners via NetJets. It used to be available to Marquis Jet members through the special M-Club), but the company discontinued the program earlier this year. With less than five jumbos available through its relationship with NetJets, Marquis Jet could not achieve availability guarantees. Private versions of both jumbo jets are available for charter.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner private jetBoeing has recently added the 787 Dreamliner to its BBJ business, which originally included 737 derivatives. The first two models were the BBJ1 and BBJ2. Since then, newer models are more clearly identified: the 747 VIP, 777 VIP and 787 VIP.

To demonstrate the possibilities for the 787 VIP, Boeing hired BMW DesignWorksUSA to mock up a customized cabin for private customers. Take a look at the peek-a-boo floor revealing the garage beneath. Gizmodo has additional photos of the 787 VIP here (though these are not from BMW).

Boeing has contracts for seven of these private 787s. Given the swelling demand for all scale of private jets, the pimp-my-jet business has finally reached critical mass. Even Versace has decided to get in on the interior design business. Concept pix are available here.

Versace private jet interiorAirbus has had it’s hiccups with the A380, but that hasn’t tempered its ambitions for adding the model to its Airbus Corporate Jet line. Wired magazine put together a fantastic walkthrough of a private A380 here. Click on the various sections to see artist renderings of the interior.

Like the 787, the A380 is intended for commercial carriers, though there’s nothing to keep you from writing a check for $325 million. A mystery billionaire has done just that, reports Wired, and has hired industrial designer Edese Doret to reconfigure the plane for personal use. Expected cost for customization is approximately $150 million. Earlier models of the Boeing Business Jet and Airbus Corporate Jet can be had for about $50 million, depending on your interior decorating bill.

Though these planes are a stretch for most, there are certain occasions where Hawker and Gulfstream flyers need an upgrade. A jumbo private jet can be a great fit for weddings, company off-sites, family reunions, special events and once-in-a-lifetime parties (though make sure you don’t stick shareholders with the bill). Check with a charter provider for pricing and availability.
