Marquis Jet Keeps It Simple

Marquis Jet Gulfstream 200 - fractional ownership jetIn the past year, we’ve noted a few programs that allow fractional owners or charter card members special savings or privileges by tailoring their flight patterns. If you agree to fly outside peak periods, you can get better rates from some providers; if you fly to certain destinations on Saturdays, you can avoid the ferry fees that would normally apply.

These programs can definitely save money, although there are circumstances where they may be more expensive, depending on your contract and flight patterns.

What’s often overlooked is the complicating effect these terms can have on your jet experience. Promoted terms can be confusing, and it takes time to apply the terms to your flight profile and forecast any potential savings.

A central appeal of private aviation is this two-step process:

  1. Make a call
  2. Get a jet

As terms are heaped upon conditions, this simplicity can get lost. Finding out whether you can actually fly this jet on that date at the expected price becomes an open question. As one fractional owner declared, “That’s called charter, and that’s not what I signed up for.”

Marquis Jet logoMarquis Jet has been somewhat emphatic in resisting the trend of promotional tiers and discounted plans. Members enjoy guaranteed access 365 days a year, with 20 peak days which require additional advance notice (five days). There are no pricing surcharges or discounts depending on timing or advance notice.

Simplicity isn’t everything, and everyone’s flight profile is distinct. But if the crispness of the two-step process is appealing, and if you value flexibility and convenience highly, ask your provider to price the simplest, most flexible plan. It’ll cost more, but you may find it worthwhile. On the other hand, for flyers with predictable travel patterns that align with the special programs, the savings can be substantial.
