South America is the next frontier for destination club Solstice, which today announced its newest luxury home, a three level modernist design set in a beachfront development in Brazil. The house, part of the Warapuru resort in Itacare, Brazil will be ready for the first guests in the spring of 2008.
“This home is in an eco-friendly resort right in the Brazilian jungle and a big part of the allure is its location,” said Mark Cain, the managing director of marketing at Solstice, noting that this region of the globe has long been on the club’s radar screen. “We have been looking at South America for awhile and identified this development very early on. This home has already been well received by our membership.”
The new home, a five-bedroom villa in the Warapuru resort, was designed London-based Anouska Hempel Design and will incorporate indigenous materials into the building. The house will be framed in 2,000 tons of limestone and an 18-foot teakwood door will lead to rooms with floor to ceiling windows and three levels of sundecks. There are also five plunge pools in the house with a private pool off each of the two master suites. The villa is one of 18 under development at the beach resort, which is set into the Brazilian rain forest. Guests will also have access to a private butler and a golf cart to use in order to reach the resort’s amenities including a spa, beach club and fitness center.
The announcement of the new South American property comes along with Solstice’s rollout of its new website that has more user-friendly features like the ability to zoom in on home floor plans in addition to browsing through a property’s photo slideshow. The club currently has homes in ten locations including Telluride, Colo., Florence, Italy, Paris and New York, where it added two new residences this year.
Solstice also announced that it is raising prices for all three of its membership plans after November 14. Cain points to the increasing price tags on luxury homes as the reason for the rate jump. In fact any softness in the real estate market, he said, has not impacted prices on high-end luxury homes that make up the core of Solstice’s real estate portfolio. “There has not been a retraction in price when it come to these type of properties,” said Cain. Solstice will add $50 million worth of real estate to its coffers in 2008 alone.
The three levels of plans offer various numbers of advance reservation days as well as different booking windows for last minute travel plans. Annual membership dues will increase to a minimum of $34,000 a year for the lowest priced plan and to $86,000 for the most expensive offering. The Signature plan deposit is increasing to $615,000 from $535,000, while the Platinum plan is jumping by $100,000 to $975,000. The Sky level of membership, which offers 56 days of advanced reservations is increasing by $200,000 to $1,950,000 though even a willingness to shell out nearly $2 million can’t get you access to a membership. The Sky program currently has a waiting list.
