The holidays have just wrapped up, but you are already thinking about your next vacation. If you’re not ready to drop $300,000 or more on a destination club membership, an entry-level plan can be the answer. These four clubs offer more wallet-friendly starting points for both destination club newbies looking to get their feet wet and potential members who simply don’t have more than few weeks a year to vacation.
While such plans typically include fewer nights in a club’s luxury homes, they are also distinguished from more expensive plans in what they lack. Most low cost plans have a limited number of advanced reservations and may not give you access to homes during holiday prime times. Of course before buying any club membership you’ll want to work out the actual price tag on a trip and break out the cost per night. Download our Decision Guide to Destination Clubs
to help work through the rest.
Exclusive Resorts
With a membership topping 3,000, Exclusive Resorts is an established club with a portfolio of some 350 homes and another 125 in the works. The club’s Elite level membership runs $459,000 with annual dues of $34,900 for 45 days of vacation, but last year Exclusive Resorts rolled out a new entry level option that’s less than a third of the cost of its top tier plans. For a $129,000 deposit and $12,900 a year in annual fees, an Associate Membership gets vacationers ten days of stays. An Associate level member can have one advance reservation on the books while an Elite member can have four such advance reservations.
Private Escapes
Private Escapes will merge with Ultimate Resort later this month and operate under a new brand, Ultimate Escapes. Once the merger is complete, the combined club will have a new line of plan memberships, but until then there is Private Escapes Premiere. The $105,000 Premier price tag, with $7,700 in annual dues, includes unlimited nightly usage and seven nights of reciprocity with either Private Escapes Platinum or Pinnacle plans. While use is unlimited, the plan requires a nightly fee of $82 on top of annual dues. The Private Escapes Pinnacle membership runs $325,000 with annual dues of $22,000.
One Key
One Key’s travel card approach to the destination club market eliminates deposits altogether. Instead, members purchase a set number of nights (the least expensive is 15 nights for $34,900) and use the card for stays at the club’s portfolio of homes in locations like Cabo San Lucas, Telluride and Tuscany. Entry level cards don’t have restrictions on holiday bookings. Instead of owning the homes the club leases all of the properties in its portfolio allowing it to switch up its inventory if it needs to adjust to seasonal demand.
High Country Club
This two-year-old club with 31 homes available and three more under construction, offers several membership levels including a $25,000 Companion Plan that includes seven nights of stays. High Country Club’s annual dues for that entry level membership are $2,100, but it doesn’t include benefits found on higher priced plans, such as advanced holiday reservations, so don’t count on being able to book a home for Christmas. Even High Country Club’s most expensive offering, requires a deposit of only $70,000 and annual dues of only $9,000 for 35 nights along with preferred booking for holidays.
