Private jet companies seem eager to make use of the new Eclipse 500 very light jet. At $1.6 million, it’s already the most affordable jet on the market, and access to the private flyers will undoubtedly only increase as fractional companies begin to take delivery of the first planes.
Fractional ownership company OurPLANE recently took delivery of its first VLJ, and plans to purchase $40 million worth of the new models from Eclipse.
OurPLANE fractional shares of an Eclipse 500 start at $521,000. The first plane was delivered to SheltAir at Jacksonville, Fla. for a corporate customer.
Westlake Village, Calif. based Jet-Alliance offers fractional shares of the Eclipse 500 starting at $450,000 for a 1/4 share. According to their website, JetAlliance currently has a waiting list for Eclipse 500 clients.
However, the most ambitious VLJ plans were announced by Boca Raton, Fla.-based DayJet, which in August announced more than $200 million in financing for their charter fleet of Eclipse 500s. DayJet expects to offer more than 1,000 Eclipse 500s within five years.
Though both fractional VLJs and on demand charter fleets are literally just getting off the ground, OurPLANE’s first confirmed sale is exciting news for industry watchers. Helium Report’s Decision Guide to Private Jet Travel
looks more closely at the emerging VLJ category.
