Dream Circle destination clubDestination club options are only getting more exotic. Last month, South Africa-based Dream Circle, a division of Mirage Leisure & Development, launched offering a portfolio of 25 homes that will begin to open to guests next year.

The homes range in value from $1.5 million to $3 million and the $340,000 membership is structured as an equity interest. Members can secure 32 days of use per year in homes in South Africa’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and Big Five game lodges in Kenya, among other locations. There will also be homes in Mauritius and the Seychelles. Many homes have golf course access, and such properties are conveniently stocked with four sets of clubs. All homes include state-of-the-art electronics and offer housekeeping and catering services.

Early members can purchase what the club calls a “Preferential Share,” which entitles members to both vacation time at the homes and access to a luxury yacht. The plan calls for homes to be sold after 12 years and for members to get their initial investment back as well as a share of the real estate profits from any appreciation in the value of the property. Membership will be limited to maintain an occupancy level below 65 percent and the current plan is to cap membership at 168.

Dream Circle overview

Dream Circle will keep tabs on members’ preferred food and drinks, entertainment, events, child care needs and more, through a membership questionnaire. Among choices are sporting equipment, DVDs, concert tickets, and toys for the kids. The goal is to have all preferred and required items on hand at the home when the members arrive for their vacation.

While Dream Circle is the first Africa-based destination club, the continent has been getting more attention in the past year from both second home developers and Europe and U.S-centric clubs. In South Africa, Fairmont Heritage Place, Zimbali, was announced in early fall and will be ready for occupancy in 2009. While we don’t know of another Africa-based club, a limited number of clubs do have homes on the continent. Europe-based the Oyster Circle has a home in a resort a half hour outside of Cape Town, South Africa and one planned for Marrakech, Morroco while the Hideaways Club has two Morrocan homes.
