David Beckham, soccer royalty and perennial papparazi target, is getting into the resort real estate business. At a beachside announcement in Brazil, Beckham along with South American resort developer Brazil Development Investimentos Turisticos, announced Cabo Sao Roque, a 3,000-acre gated community that will have more than a thousand residences and a Beckham-branded sports training facility.
Beckham announced his plans for the David Beckham World of Sport, a training center that will have eight soccer fields and programs for both professional athletes and local children. The gated community will also house the Rubens Barrichello Driving Experience, an auto arena complete with go-kart race track and pit lane.
The first phase of homes at Cabo Sao Roque, located in Natal in the northeast corner of Brazil, will encompass some 1,350 homes, ranging from smaller apartments to larger villas, with either ocean or lake views. Real estate prices have not yet been announced for phase one, which broke ground this week, but the homes will be marketed to Europeans, South Americans and buyers throughout North America. There is potential Posh and Becks sightings in the community since Beckham has agreed to purchase a residence in the development.
This isn’t the first time a sports celebrity has lent their name to second home resort development. Andre Agassi and Steffi Graff’s development company is behind the Fairmont Tamarack at the Tamarack Resort in Idaho. Residences at the Fairmont start at around $700,000.
