When I began researching destination clubs about a year ago, I was disappointed to find that almost every club was targeting the same market- affluent members travelling with large families and friends seeking multi-million dollar accomodations in the most exotic, far flung places throughout the world. They were all competing to see which club could offer the most over-the-top homes with the most bedrooms and super deluxe features in the most remote places.

It all sounded very exciting, and although I could afford the $300,000-$600,000 membership fees and like to travel extensively and first class, I considered our normal travel pattern. We do not have a large family and my wife and I often travel alone or with another couple or a few friends. We don’t need 5 or 6 bedrooms with 5,000-6,000 square feet. Also, while we enjoy frequent trips within driving distance or a short flight away, we normally take just a couple of trips a year to the East Coast or outside the U. S. Do we really need what most of the clubs were offering?

High Country Club’s philosopy is to offer very attractive 2-4 bedroom, 1,500-3,000 sf. homes mostly clustered regionally to make travel accessible, with a scattering of “special” retreats in popular destinations around the globe. It fits our needs perfectly.

We recently returned from a month long, late summer driving trip with a few friends through the beautiful Colorado Rockies, spending a week each at HCC properties in Steamboat Springs, Keysone, and Copper Mountain along with a short stay in Telluride and Beaver Creek. We found the homes (mostly townhomes and condos) to be well located for both summer and winter activites, all attractively furnished, well equipped with amenities for adults and children, and plenty of room to accomodate more than our party of 5 adults.

We are looking foward to our next vacation with High Country this January in Cabo San Lucas for a week. In March, we have booked at La Costa near San Diego. Then in late spring, we are joining two other couples who we introduced and have become members at High Country’s villa in Tuscany for a month. High Country’s concierge in Europe has offered us considerable help in arranging car rentals, day trips, winery tours, restaurant recommendations, etc. during our coming visit.

We have had no problem so far booking the properties we want either in advance or on short notice and have enjoyed nothing but the best in service from all the staff. Our only complaint being from Arizona is that there are not more homes in California and on the West Coast.

High Country Club is definitely different from the rest. It’s accessible. It’s affordable. We highly recommend it. It is truly “the club for the rest of us.”
