New Zealand will have to wait. I’ve been wanting to see and fish this exotic locale for some time now. Huge trout, beautiful scenery, great accomodations, and wonderful people. Spring Ridge Club has filled that void on a grand scale. Close to home, huge trout, scenery, cabins, and the best personnel. During February, 2007, the east coast was in a deep freeze. The only fishing available was the spring creeks (they don’t freeze)of Spring Ridge Club. At the end of February (last week), while fishing Spruce Creek, I caught an eleven pound Brown Trout, several more browns between six and eight pounds, and a host of Rainbow Trout that thought they were steelhead. These streams have not been fished for weeks and the fish were on fire. New Zealand could not have been as good. Thank you Donny Beaver for a wonderful trip to a pristine mountain retreat with everything a flyfisher could dream of.
